Taking its name from the American jazz trumpeter and bandleader Dizzy Gillespie, Dizzy Gillespie for President is an evening of live jazz at Northern Quarter speakeasy bar The Fitzgerald. In 1964, the musician stuck a middle finger up to the establishment and ran as a candidate in the presidential election, getting as close to the White House as any black man could at that time. In homage to the pioneer, this Wednesday will showcase local jazz talent Lick the Moon with support from Lagoon and YAMAKOZO.
