A true East Coast pioneer, Brooklyn’s own Jeru The Damaja has been crafting razor-sharp rhymes since the age of 10. Renowned for his relentless flow and unapologetically honest lyrics, he first burst onto the early-’90s hip-hop scene alongside Gang Starr on “I’m The Man,” before dropping his signature anthem “Come Clean” on the groundbreaking album The Sun Rises in the East. Now proclaimed “the saviour of hip-hop” for his unflinching critique of the culture, Jeru cemented his legacy with follow-up classics “Ya Playin’ Yaself” and “Me or the Papes” on The Wrath of the Math.

On Thursday 26 June, The Blues Kitchen swings open its doors at 7:00 pm to host this one-night-only headline set. You’ll journey through Jeru’s storied catalogue—from the raw minimalism of “Come Clean” to the scathing truths of “Ya Playin’ Yaself”—as he unleashes his “hardcore conscious” style live on stage.

Before Jeru arrives, local DJs will be spinning heavyweight vinyl cuts to set the mood, so drop in early to soak up the atmosphere.
