Lightwaves in Salford returns for its 11th edition this week. Packed with a trail of mesmerising light installations, this year’s festival showcases artwork from 14 artists, including five brand-new commissions, all hosting their world premieres on the waterfront.
A popular annual event, this year’s programme features work from acclaimed artist Anastasia Isachsen who’s project Monad is a giant projection-based artwork, which will be seen across the water from MediaCity. At 30m wide, the installation incorporates video projection using a mist of water as a screen and is accompanied by a deeply emotional musical composition by renowned jazz composer Arve Henriksen.
Multi-disciplinary artist Gaika, who recently collaborated with rapper Kano, presents SYSTEM LIGHTWAVES PSB, an exciting new commission inviting guests to the chaotic world of bike riders through lights, sounds and screens. Gaika has teamed up with Belinda Everett (Manchester’s Bicycle Mayor) on the artwork.
Catch these artworks and more from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 December, with free entry and no need to book.
