Małgorzata Mirga-Tas is a Romani-Polish artist celebrated for her innovative use of textiles to create striking figurative images representing Romani culture and histories. Her elaborate, colourful compositions refashion community fabrics and the Western canon to elevate the voices of Roma people everywhere.
This is her first solo show in the UK and is produced by Tate St Ives in collaboration with the Whitworth. The exhibition presents more than 20 large-scale artworks by Mirga-Tas, alongside a selection of historic textiles from the Whitworth’s collection, that have been selected by the artist. The evening will also feature live Roma music from noted violinist Istvan Kate.
