Manchester artist and historian Paul Wilde is displaying his visual record of the city’s musical evolution. Originally a column in the Manchester Evening News, Paul’s cartoons chart not just the names that everyone knows, but those long-forgotten, as well as the city’s spaces and fans that put the music on the map. Charting all the way back to 1929, Paul has formed a timeline of popular music through in-depth research and hand-drawn artistry, he hopes to encourage conversation about the city’s musical legacy and make the case for a permanent Manchester Music Museum. Running for three weeks of September for patrons to browse, Paul will also be there to chat to in a series of sessions as he further gathers personal histories of Manchester’s music scenes.
