A new chapter in UK street culture touches down in Manchester on Thursday 8 May, as size? and adidas Originals bring their Superstar Sessions to renae — the new audio-led bar that’s rapidly become one of the city’s most interesting venues.
They’re also bringing with them one of the most influential names in UK garage history. MJ Cole — who is celebrating 25 years since the release of the pivotal album Sincere — will be playing an intimate set alongside Conducta, the face of the scene’s new wave.
The event marks the launch of an upcoming size? exclusive adidas Superstar — a new take on the shell-toe, one of the most recognisable trainers of all time.

Things kick off from 3pm, when the space is open to the public. There’ll be a laid-back programme of music from local DJs — Jim Bane and Urbi — playing sets designed for proper listening. Think slow burners, vinyl textures, records that make you nod your head without really thinking about it.
From 5:30pm, the tone will step up. Hanz & Chimpo take over the decks, ahead of MJ Cole and Conducta each bringing their own approach to a sound that’s moved through pirate radio, club basements and now, onto the main stage of UK music. Between them, they map out two decades of influence — and remind you why this music still matters.
There’s also food, with local heroes Nell’s Pizza slinging a one-off Superstar Slize from 5:30pm onwards.
The early part of the day is open to everyone, but if you want to stick around after 5:30pm, you’ll need a ticket. The free ones went fast, but there’ll be a very limited number available on the door for anyone who wants to chance it.
Drop in early, stay late, and see where the night takes you.
