Waterside Arts host the launch of Our Long Goodbye, a touring exhibition of photos, films and texts that candidly and sensitively show the everyday love and heartbreak of someone you know living with dementia. The project has the relationship between Jenny Harris and her mum at its heart and is a familiar story; yet one that is rarely spoken about.
Jenny has been a drama facilitator for thirty years and for the last 10 years has specialised in multi-art form creative dementia sessions in care homes, hospitals and community spaces. When Jenny’s own mum started showing signs of dementia, her professional and personal world collided irreversibly and the exhibition sensitively documents Jenny’s journey.
Alongside the exhibition Jenny will be running a free creative writing workshop on Saturday 21 June, for anyone who has an experience of caring for, or knowing somebody with, dementia and wants to have a go at writing about dementia as well as other subjects. Expect a range of fun activities and writing exercises in a relaxed setting.
