Rainy Heart started out as a pop-up event space in – how to put it politely – the transforming Stretford Mall. DJ, broadcaster and label owner Ruf Dug, famed for his Wet Play parties, and Dan Hope – long on the club and food scene in the city – called a few mutual mates (like Luke Una, Mr Scruff, James Holroyd and synth queen Sarah Bates) and soon enough, this unit – formerly a mod-themed chip shop – was filled good people and great sound.
The latter was thanks to a sound system that Ruf had been building, made up of refurbed BBC studio monitos from the 70s and old cinema sub woofers for the low-end grunt. They’ve not looked back.

Recent parties have taken over the abandoned branch of Boots inside the mall, as well as turning Higher Ground into a nightclub, and a old magazine kiosk into the smallest listening bar in the world (allegedly). Now, from 19 April, they’ll be starting ‘A Bar That Listens’, a spring-to-summer residency at the Bungalow at Kampus.
There will be live performances, screenings of films with amazing soundtracks, interactive art, dance classes, supper clubs and residencies from some of their favourite chefs – including Little Window’s Richard Carver and Will Shaw.

There will also be day parties, the first happening on 19 April – Easter Saturday – with a secret line-up of DJs from the RH rolodex, all kicking off at 2pm.
The residency runs to 8 June. Follow Rainy Heart on Instagram for updates.
