National Transgender Charity Sparkle celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Sparkle Weekend in Manchester’s Gay Village. Taking place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 June, the weekend is the UK’s longest-running free-to-attend event that celebrates the transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse community.
Guests can expect live performances, community talks, wellbeing activities, youth provision and market stalls. One of the key moments is Sparkle Superstars – a long-standing inclusive pageant that gives trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, neurodiverse and disabled contestants of all ages a platform to shine.
Sparkle Weekend was born in 2005 on Canal Street. The event grew from humble beginnings, as a Miss Sparkle Pageant, to Sparkle in the Park, to today as Sparkle Weekend, a full three-day community festival, with Sparkle charity now also holding regular wellbeing events throughout the year, known as Sparkle Sanctuary.
