bluedot and Manchester property company Bruntwood have announced a free-entry family day of music, science and cosmic culture.

“Microdot” is the official warm-up to this year’s bluedot festival in July, and will take place at food, drink and retail destination Hatch, part of Circle Square on Manchester’s Oxford Road, on Saturday 15 June from midday until 11 pm.

Music acts will include Cassetteboy and David Attenborough’s Jungle Boogie – a dance party paying tribute to the UK’s most loved biologist, a night of nature visuals, jungle life and funk and disco – alongside DJ Paulette, Werkha and more.

There’ll also be kid-friendly entertainment from Space Rebel Princess, roaming performers, fun activities plus more family acts to be revealed. Just like at bluedot itself, MicroDot will feature Dot Talks, curated by Jodrell Bank Observatory, featuring Tim O’Brien, Tana Joseph (Research Fellow at the Royal Society) and the Level Up Human podcast.

Throughout the event there’ll also be screenings of classic bluedot performances from previous years.

Microdot will be taking over the newly expanded Hatch as it trebles in size and evolves into the city’s biggest multipurpose, creative village of food, drink, retail, entertainment, creative workspace, social and event spaces.

Microdot will be the public’s first look at Hatch’s impressive transformation, which will also be revealed for the first time on the 15th, with Microdot providing a spectacular opening event.

Activity will take place across Hatch’s new stage, social spaces and shipping container roof terraces – the perfect environment to celebrate the warm up to bluedot, and this new era for Hatch and Bruntwood.

Extraordinary street food, craft beer, natural wine, artisan coffee and cracking cocktails will all be in abundance via Hatch’s exciting new roster of food and drink traders.

bluedot returns to Jodrell Bank Observatory this 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st July, with four days of music, science and cosmic culture, featuring music headliners Kraftwerk 3-D, New Order and Hot Chip, key science speakers Helen Sharman and James Burke, and much, much more.

The final line-up/ programme is coming soon – but you can always RSVP and click attending on the Facebook group to stay in the loop using the button below.
