There's a packed calendar of events over at Freight Island this December

Looking forward to when we get put into Tier 2 on the 16th December?! Yeah, me too. In fact, I’ll be queueing up at my local boozer as early as I can to get myself a nice frosty pint and a Scotch Egg. You wait and see.

I think it’s pretty much a guarantee at this point that we’re going to move down a Tier, what with all of our stats free-falling. It’ll only take a serious case of childish-ness against Andy Burnham to keep us in Tier 3.

So we’ve got just over a week to enjoy being able to go to our favourite venues again, and then after that – we’re supposed to be having 5 days ‘off’ where we can all have a great Christmas. So to take full advantage of this, Escape to Freight Island have created a calendar of music events for us all to enjoy over the festive period.

Around 3 days before we were forced into our second lockdown, Freight Island launched their brand-new Ticket Hall extension – making the space much, much larger, adding a huge stage, more food and drinks vendors and generally becoming one of the best venues in the world.

So, what have they got planned for us? Let’s have a look…

Reform Radio Xmas Party & Twisted Tubes
16th December
Reform Radio will be having their Christmas Party as soon as they’re allowed to get out of the house on the 16th December, alongside the ‘Twisted Tubes’ Brass Band.

The Untold Orchestra presents: The Sound of Disney
20th & 23rd December
The supremely talented Untold Orchestra (you should hear their viola section – it’s the BEST) present an evening of orchestral renditions of all of your favourite Disney songs. The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, they’re all going to be in there – plus a few Pixar treats I imagine also. I only have one request – that one from Enchanted – if they do that I’m in!

Amuse Bouche
20th December
The regular ‘Amuse Bouche’ event will be continuing in December – a riotous Sunday evening line-up of drag, DJs and dining.

The Untold Orchestra presents: Bowie
21st December
I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t enjoy a bit of Bowie. Even if you’re not his greatest fan, there’s a few bangers in there that you’ll profess to love, and there’s no denying his massive impact on the world of music, fashion, codpieces and thrusting during his 50 years in the ‘biz. My only regret in life is never getting the chance to watch him live – but this evening with the Untold Orchestra will be the next best thing. Especially paired with plenty of beers and grub.

The Untold Orchestra presents: Stevie Wonder
22nd December
What an absolute legend Stevie Wonder is. If I was blind I’d just mope about my house all day, complaining to the council and generally being a miserable arsehole – but not Stevie. He’s cemented himself as one of the greatest performers EVER and he still likes to give the ivories a tinkle to this day – despite the fact that he’s 70. The Untold Orchestra will be performing all of his big hits, and a few obscure ones too I’m sure in this night dedicated to an absolute legend.

DJ Ruf Dug & Songs Around The Campfire
23rd December
Your chance to catch the exciting DJ Rug Dug on the decks in The Ticket Hall here, as well as catching musician John Ellis in the regular ‘songs around the campfire’ feature.

The Freight Island Christmas Choir
24th December
What better way to feel all festive and Christmassy this Christmas Eve than to have a few bevvies while listening to an actual choir sing all of your favourite carols and Christmas songs. Ding Dong Merrily on high and all that…

Electric Chair presents: End of Year Riot
27th December
Set firmly in that week between Christmas and New Year when you don’t know what the fuck is going on, never mind what day it is, Freight Island will be hosting a massive (socially distanced) club night from the talented lot at Electric Chair. This infamous annual party will be taking over The Ticket Hall and you should expect turns from the likes of Lena C, Kelvin Andrews, Kath McDermott, Sean Johnston and The Unabombers.

Children of Zeus
28th & 29th December
Taking over The Ticket Hall on the 28th & 29th December is Tyler Daley and Konny Kon – or as they’re also known – Children of Zeus. This is going to be a BIGGIE and certainly the party of the festive season. If I was you I’d get a ticket ASAP because these bad boys are going to be like gold dust pretty soon!

Kendal Calling & Tim Peaks Present Freight Island Takeover & Songs Around The Campfire
30th December
The festival lot will be taking over Freight Island for a full day and evening of some of the best DJ’s in the biz, including Hacienda legend Dave Haslam and Tim Burgess’ Twitter Listening Party LIVE. There’ll also be song by the campfire all day with singer Matthew Whittaker.
