Manchester’s only accessible rave returns to The Refuge’s summer terrace for another huge party!
The nightclub opens up the dancefloor to adults with learning and physical disabilities who feel otherwise unable to attend clubbing events in Manchester, creating a safe and welcoming space for partying.
Founded by Alice Woods, one quarter of the team behind Meat Free, Under One Roof has had 4 successful years of raving in the city.
Alice created the club night to overcome the physical access to clubs and also the overwhelming new environments that cause a big portion of society to miss out on clubbing.
Making up the line up at The Refuge this weekend is Alice herself, under her DJ pseudonym ‘aalice’ and Cheshire DJ / Producer, Jake Smith.
aalice has taken her sound across the UK and further afield playing parties and festivals from the infamous AVA Boiler Room to Field Maneuvers, Festival No. 6 and Innercity Electronic. aalice currently holds a residency at Hidden in Manchester – one of the UK’s most renowned clubs.
She has run Under One Roof for the past 4 years, and has spoken and hosted a number of panel discussions and talks across the UK, as well as IMS in Ibiza on various issues in the music industry – including accessibility and intersectionality.
Jake Smith is a disabled, 20 year old, DJ/Producer from Cheshire who has Cerebral Palsy, meaning that he DJs from his wheelchair. This definitely doesn’t stop him in any way though, as so far he has played gigs at Ibiza’s Ocean Beach, played for Mark Night (toolroom records – Halloween party) in 2019, performed in the VIP area at Creamfields festival, and three of his mixes have been played on Kiss FM and 1 of his tracks on Radio 1.
Jake’s main aim is to change people’s perceptions of disability, and to show people that if you have a disability it can’t stop you achieving your dreams!
Under One Roof will take over the terrace at The Refuge this Saturday from 5pm. The event is completely free to attend, without the need to register for a ticket.
