On Thursday 11th August at The Carlton Club in Whalley Range, a live discussion hosted by podcaster Rebecca Ryder will invite guests to share their personal experiences surrounding loneliness and adult friendships, as well as advice and tips on how to develop lasting connections.

Alongside the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical health, the past couple of years have also highlighted the amount of adults struggling with loneliness across the UK.

Recent studies conducted by YouGov found that 51% of people in the UK say they find it difficult to make new friends, while a third (35%) find making friends ‘fairly difficult’. A further 16% say it’s ‘very difficult’ for them, so, if this sounds like you, you’re definitely not alone.

As part of Rebcca’s event ‘How To Make and Find Communities as an Adult’ event, panelists will cover topics including; the difference between friendship in childhood and in adulthood, the concept of loneliness, the heartbreak of friendship breakups, creating communities, and top tips for people looking to make new friends/feel more confident introducing themselves to people.

The evening aims to provide a safe space with an honest group of people with different backgrounds and relatable experiences. Already confirmed to take part in the event is an actor, an LGBTQ+ badminton club founder, a meditation coach and a video game producer, alongside host Rebecca.

Audience members are also able to ask the panel questions on the evening either during the discussion or afterwards where socialising is encouraged – a great opportunity to get to know fellow guests and make new friends.

8,200 people search ‘How to Make Friends in Google’ every month, only confirming further the importance of events such as this, which are crucial to supporting the local community and combating adult loneliness.

Tickets for How to Make and Find Communities as an Adult are on sale now for £5. The event is free for refugees and asylum seekers.
