Last night The Sunday Times Style hosted a northern knees up for 1,500 in Manchester to celebrate the real capital of cool and the grand opening of The Principal Manchester hotel

Guests at the glamorous party included Mark Ronson, Henry Holland, Bernard Sumner (New Order), Vanessa White, Dougray Scott, Bez (Happy Mondays), Jade Parfitt, Mary Anne Hobbs, Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Charlie Caseley-Hayford, Naga Munchetty, Jo Hartley, Tamer Hassan, Benedict Wong, Bipolar Sunshine.

The celebrations continued until late into the night with entertainment from special guests Mark Ronson, Sink The Pink, Horse Meat Disco and Unabombers. Guests dined on food served by The Refuge by Volta, a dining room and public bar created by Principal in partnership with Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford. Some of the offerings included Broccolini with garlic crumbs and belly-stuffed whole seabass, pine nuts, coriander and preserved lemon, served with wines from Bibendum and cocktails by High Spirits.

Guests were able to preview The Principal Manchester, formerly The Palace Hotel, which has recently undergone an extensive £25 million renovation. The existing hotel has been transformed into one of England’s most striking hotels by the Principal design team and 3D Reid Architects, with interiors by Michaelis Boyd. Each of the 270 guestrooms and suites have been designed to restore and maintain listed period details and include thoughtful and elegant touches.
