On Wednesday 23rd October, vintage fanatics will gather in the hundreds to the city’s most glamorous event of the year! Manchester Vintage Awards is returning to a newly renovated venue, Manchester 235, where eager independent businesses will wait in anticipation to find out who will be crowned the Vintage winners for 2013! I got together with organiser Susan Earlam to find out more.

Hi Susie, Can you tell Manchester’s Finest about your role in the Manchester Vintage Awards?
As  creator and editor of vintagemanchester.com I organise the awards along with Rachael from the Social Butterfly who helps with event planning side and PR.

Tell me more about the vintage scene in Manchester?
Manchester has a thriving vintage scene, having nationally recognised vintage markets that have actually been so successful that they”ve inspired small villages of businesses to pop up around the market and revitalised towns that have formally been in the doldrums.

There are dance classes, makeup and hair artists, and lots of Entrepreneurs starting their own businesses in the field, whether its more a lifestyle thing like baking or crafting or something like a vintage clothing collector who want to sell their collection.

How long have the awards been running?
This is the second year.

And why did you start it up? And why are the vintage awards important?
As a member of the vintage city network, I saw how well the vintage guide to London”s awards was taken despite being an online only thing. I thought it would be great for Manchester vintage types to meet each other, as I believe that”s when the most exiting things happen- collaboration”s, and competition- both of which are healthily for any best online casino industry.

And who decides who makes it into the 10 vintage categories?
I decide the categories and then the public nominate their favorite businesses in each one. I then count how many nominations each business has received- then the top 3 in each category become the finalists.

Can people attend the awards?
Yep buy tickets here.

What can people expect from the award ceremony?
The ‘Sixties Las Vegas’ themed event looks set to be a show-stopping experience with confirmed vintage acts such as burlesque entertainer ‘Ginger La Rouge’ who will be bubbling hot with her infamous champagne glass act! Vintage style starlet Suzie Sequin is returning to the awards to perform  her special ‘Viva Las Vegas’ act, expect anything but the original version! A wonderful new addition to this year’s awards is ‘The Drinks Enthusiast’ who will be sharing his boozy brilliance with our alcohol sponsor, Italian aperitif, Sprizatto! Hosting the event once again is the insatiable Miss Kiki deVille who will also be showcasing her renowned bluesy vocals during an exclusive Live performance.

What does the future hold for the Manchester Vintage Awards?
Hopefully we can continue to hold the event in different venues each year, theming the event around the venue, mid sized venues seem to be few and far between in Manchester though for some reason. But new places are opening all the time. Bigger, better and glitzier!
