The shop on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton attracts a whole host of vinyl buffs who love nothing more than spending a Sunday sifting through forgotten hits and hidden gems, and the place has rarely changed since it swung its doors open 35 years ago. It’s a proper cosy and welcoming record retreat, that you most definitely won’t leave empty handed.
SK1 Records
17 Little Underbank, Stockport
Perched underneath the bridge on Stockport’s Little Underbank, you’ll find SK1 Records. The independent store sells everything from jazz and indie, to 80s synth pop and experimental rock to bulk up your collection. It also houses a mezzanine for you to enjoy a coffee and a bit of cake post digging, AND they often have a resident pooch wandering around, too, so what could be better?!
Wilderness Records
9 Egerton Cres, Withington
Wilderness is not just a record shop, it’s a bar, cafe and music venue, too, right in the heart of South Manchester. They’ve got a gorgeous line-up of carefully curated records, including all of your cult classics, signature compilations and second hand gems, as well as some independent Manchester-based labels. If you’re new to the vinyl scene, then their friendly staff will give you a hand choosing your next favourite album, and you can even grab yourself a beer to celebrate!
All Night Flight
10 Mealhouse Brow, Stockport
Launched in 2019, and another Stockport hidden gem, All Night Flight is tucked away in the town’s historic old town. The store sells predominantly left-field, experimental, electronic and worldwide sounds, and also hosts regular DJ nights, with many of the sets streaming on NTS. Owner, Tom Houghton was already selling bits and bobs out of his record collection before embarking on the All Night Flight journey, so he’s naturally in his element. This store is great if you’re thinking outside of your usually restricted genre box.

177 Fog Lane, Burnage
Infamous Burnage record store, Sifters Records is said to have played a major part in the career of the Gallagher brothers! When one-half of the mouthy Manc duo (Noel) stepped foot in the shop as a 16-year-old, Mr Sifter provided him with a collection of records that may well have spurred him onto begin his own, quite frankly, era defining musical career. The shop still sits in the same location as it did over 30 years ago, and continues to provide music fans of all genres with a bag of affordable goodies on departure.

Owners of this loveable Chorlton store quit their day jobs to become founts of vinyl knowledge full-time, and it really shows with the welcoming environment and friendly service you receive when popping in. It’s a shop created by people who love music and books, for people who love music and books and it’s full of wonderfully weird novelty items to kit your home out with, as well as a mint selection of records.
Beatin’ Rhythm
Bank House Studios, Warwick St, Prestwich
Speciality Northern Soul selecters, Beatin’ Rhythm used to reside on Tib Street in Northern Quarter, but are now based in Bank House Studios in Prestwich. They have an outstanding collection of rare funk and soul for you to feast your eyes and ears on if you fancy a jaunt to the shop, fully expanding your vinyl collection to contain some underground grooves to really impress your pals with.
Reel Around the Fountain

Stretford Mall may be on its last legs, aside from its food hall that attracts a colourful bunch of street food fanatics, but Reel Around the Fountain has soldiered on and is still considered as one of the best record stores in the city. From the outside, the store looks like a place to grab egg and chips and a builders tea, but, once you venture inside, the store is full of great records and music memorabilia from the past, all curated by owner, Nigel Young.

Music for the Soul Records is a family run independent record shop in Urmston that prides itself on selling vinyl that’s in mint condition. They stock loads of classic CDs and records, with a main focus on soul, and they are more than happy to talk you through their offerings if you’re after something that’s a bit different.
Sticky Black Tarmac
Unit 17, Pembroke Market Hall, Walkden
Sticky Black Tarmac is new kid on the block, only opening its doors back in September last year in Pembroke Market Hall, Walkden. As well as selling all the second-hand delights, Sticky Black Tarmac has a big focus on newer vinyl releases, too, and has recently stocked some records that have been big hits with the 6 music lot, including Yard Act’s ‘The Overload’. The cosy shop is definitely worth a visit as there’s an absolutely mint range of music to get your grubby hands on!
Stutter & Twitch
11 George St, Altrincham
You might have seen the Stutter and Twitch lot driving about in their van, popping up at various markets across the city, armed with toe-tapping tunes and great coffee! Well, they’ve also got their very own permanent site in Altrincham where you can grab some great food and drink, alongside some new additions to your record collection, too. The venue also hosts gigs and DJ nights, so you’re looking at an all day do if you find yourself stumbling in there on a Saturday.

Another Altrincham institution, Tasty Records began its journey back in 2013 after Owner, Ben left his career in the Motor Trade. The very aesthetically pleasing store stocks a huge range of brand-new and high-quality second hand records, and is also a Record Store Day partner, which sees huge queues of dedicated fans camp out at the store to grab their most sort after releases on the day.

Levenshulme Antiques Village, 965 Stockport Rd, Levenshulme
Levenshulme’s Antiques Village is a fantastic place to kit out your house with loads of VERY necessary tatt from different dealers that take over each floor. As well as the trinkets and vintage homeware that’s on offer, M.G Records also has its very own pop up selling the best in preloved music from the past.
Double Four Records
Lower Hillgate, Stockport
Traditional vinyl chamber, Double Four Records sits on Lower Hillgate in Stockport and is a portal directly to the smoke-filled vinyl boutiques of the 80s. As well as selling trays full of records to spend your afternoon sifting through, the shop also stocks vintage band t-shirts paying homage to bands such as Joy Division and The Smiths, who recorded their music just up the road at the iconic Strawberry studios.
