Indie icons including former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan, Jimi Goodwin of Doves and The Libertines’ own Pete Doherty are all lined up to play this year’s Northenden Fringe Festival.
It all happens next month, over the Bank Holiday weekend, from 22 to 25 August, at various venues around the South Manchester suburb.
A host of gigs will be free during the day, while the evening shows will be priced at £10, with the intention of making it accessible to as many people as possible.
Headline shows will also be starting at 11pm, meaning that those attending the Blossoms and New Order shows in nearby Wythenshawe Park can swing by afterwards.

Also on the bill this year will be ex-Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim, Space’s Tommy Scott, who will both be performing free daytime shows, along with the likes of Jon DaSilva, JJ Rox, Marseille, Four Finger Disco, Andy Bennett of Ocean Colour Scene and Lewis Floyd Henry.
Pete Doherty’s gig will be a pre-festival warm-up event on 8 August at the Cringlewood Club, alongside Jack Jones, Vona Vella and Evan William.
Other venues involved in the festival include Lounge About and The Players Theatre.
The event will be a collaboration between the likes of GigPig, Modern English, festival ticketing partner Skiddle and SODA at MMU, all supporting grassroots music in the city.
“We’re bringing world-class talent to Northenden, creating a festival that celebrates Manchester’s rich musical heritage while supporting independent artists and venues,” said Dean Skarratt, festival organiser.
“This is about more than just music – it’s about community, creativity, and showcasing what the suburbs have to offer.”
Professor Kirsty Fairclough at SODA added: “Supporting musical talent across Greater Manchester is incredibly important and as a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Music Commission, we are committed to developing grassroots musical talent.
“The Northenden Fringe Festival will provide an important platform to showcase the breadth of talent that we have here in our region and I am delighted to support its development.”
