A Concert Series Featuring headline shows from RICHARD ASHCROFT, HAÇIENDA CLASSICAL, A BEAUTIFUL DAY OUT FEATURING THE LEVELLERS AND THE WATERBOYS, JAMES, BLOSSOMS…Plus special guests
Sounds of the City is back next summer taking over Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl in June and July 2017. Some of the most acclaimed live artists and shows including Richard Ashcroft, Haçienda Classical, A Beautiful Day Out featuring The Levellers and The Waterboys, James, and Blossoms will be taking the helm of what has become a staple part of the summer Manchester music scene.
Headlining their biggest show to date on Saturday 8th July is Blossoms. Their last appearance at the bowl saw them support The Charlatans in 2015, cementing their momentous rise. In just the past 12 months alone Blossoms’ eponymous debut record spent two weeks at No.1 when it was released in August – the first time a debut album has spent more than one week at No.1 from launch since 2014. Following the release of the album the band have now gone on to reach over 10 million streams on Spotify and sold out countless tours. This very special show will see them supported by The Coral, Rory Wynne and Touts.
Richard Ashcroft will be taking to the stage at the infamous Castlefield Bowl on Friday 30th June. Following sold out shows and festival performances including Isle Of Wight Festival as well as international shows in Japan, Chile, Argentina and Mexico, Richard will go into 2017 in grand style with headline arena dates amongst a very special outdoor show. Richard will be performing tracks from his latest top 3 album ‘These People’ alongside his legendary back catalogue of solo work and that with The Verve.
Returning to Manchester’s iconic location on Friday 7th July is James. With latest studio album, ‘Girl At The End Of The World’ going straight in at #2 in the UK charts, second only to Adele, James have had a year of both critical acclaim and commercial success. Known for their unique and diverse style over their 14 studio releases, James have sold over 12 million albums worldwide. The announcement follows the band’s headline sold out tour earlier this year.
For the very first time Brighton folk punk band Levellers and joint headliners The Waterboys will play at the Bowl on Sunday 2nd July. The show billed as A Beautiful Day Out is a sister event to the Levellers’ hugely successful Beautiful Days Festival in Devon, which is going into its 15th year in 2017. Levellers will be performing their classic album ‘Levelling The Land’ in full plus other hits. The platinum-selling 1991 album redefined the UK’s musical landscape and features the hit singles One Way, 15 Years and Far From Home. The Waterboys led by singer/songwriter Mike Scott, have had an illustrious career since their fruition in 1981. Playing in a number of different styles, The Waterboys released their last album Modern Blues in 2015. More special guests for A Beautiful Day Out will be announced soon.
As previously announced Haçienda Classical will be back at the Bowl on Saturday 1st July. Following great critical acclaim and phenomenal demand FAC 51 The Haçienda and Manchester Camerata, the city’s experimental orchestra are bringing back Haçienda Classical in 2017 with a brand new soundtrack. The incredible show sees the DJ’s who shaped The Haçienda’s sound – Mike Pickering and Graeme Park – collaborate with the Camerata for a night of classic dance music, innovatively adapted and arranged especially for the occasion.
Castlefield Bowl in the heart of Manchester City Centre has played host to sold out shows from Catfish And The Bottlemen, Stereophonics, James Bay, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Charlatans, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, Paolo Nutini, Pixies and The Courteeners over the past four years.
