With fresh loaves coming from baking institutions nearby, and a menu loaded with classic sandwiches like the Jambon Beurre and pastrami-laden Reuben, Ancoats Deli opened in 2024 with one mission. Serving high quality, generously-filled butties to one of the city’s trendiest neighbourhoods. An ideal stop for grab-and-go or eat-in, with great coffees, snacks and treats also on the list, this is before we mention the artisanal tinned, canned and jarred produce sitting on the shelves.

First though, the main offering. Ancoats Deli’s lunchtime deal means you can pick up some of the best sandwiches in town, or salads if you prefer, for around £7.50, while adding a coffee, crisps and takeout olives brings the bill up to a still-very-reasonable £10 mark. Options change regularly, so it’s wise to head down and see what’s there on the day. Alternatively, the team also pride themselves on an excellent charcuterie game. Made to be shared between two people, think chorizo, serrano, manchego and plenty more, with both meat and cheese and cheese-only available. There’s a larger board, too, comprising hams and cures alongside domestic and imported cheeses, which is big enough to keep you busy and leave you full to bursting.

Although clearly focused on the lunchtime crowd, Ancoats Deli is fully licensed and has a great choice of beers, wines and cocktails being poured throughout the week and weekend, afternoon into the evening. This includes orange wines like the excellent three-grape belle La Vie En Orange, delicate English sparkling varieties, alcohol-free Crodino Spritz, and a full range of Martinis – from Reverse and Vesper, to Dirty and Espresso. All made as they were intended. Meanwhile, you can expect a host of small breweries to be represented in the bottle shop, and keep an eye on socials for events like tastings and party nights.
