Bar Shrimp is where seafood, cocktails and music meet under one mood-lit roof. Created by the acclaimed team behind Higher Ground and Flawd, this refined yet free-spirited bar brings together everything they do best – exceptional produce, considered design, and an atmosphere that unfolds across the night.
By day, it’s an elegant spot for oysters and martinis. By evening, it hums with energy – the kind of place where the sound, lighting and conversation seem to merge into one. Located on New York Street, right next door to Higher Ground, it’s a natural stop for pre-dinner drinks, an after-hours cocktail, or a full evening spent grazing on seafood plates with friends.

The menu captures the same sense of care and curiosity that runs through all of their venues. British shellfish leads the way: Cumbrae and Carlingford oysters on ice, hand-dived scallop tartare, and razor clams dressed with precision. Plates range from delicate – like British bluefin tuna crudo with aged apple vinegar – to pure comfort, with cuttlefish sandwiches, ham croquettes, and cod roe fries that are destined for cult status. Even the desserts come with a sense of play, with soft serve topped with malt caramel and “bread frosties.”
Drinks are given equal weight. The bar’s signature cocktails are crafted with the same detail and restraint as the food – clean, balanced, and deeply satisfying – while the beer list and wine offering stay true to the team’s sustainable sourcing ethos. But perhaps what truly sets Bar Shrimp apart is its dedication to sound.
Working in partnership with Stockport’s award-winning MasterSounds, the venue has been fitted with a bespoke Clarity M-1215 audio system, designed and hand-finished specifically for the space. Under the direction of Lukas Stankunas – best known for his long-running Homoelectric residency – the music is treated as more than background. It’s a living, breathing part of the experience, curated to shift with the mood from early evening to late night.
Bar Shrimp is the kind of place that feels instantly established: plush-red banquettes, floor-to-ceiling drapes, a soundtrack that envelopes rather than interrupts, and a menu that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. A confident, characterful addition to the city’s late-night scene — elegant, electric, and unmistakably Manchester.
