The thing about having a sweet tooth is you get really carried away with anything sugary. Then you walk into somewhere like Bisous Bisous and realise it’s only worth blowing your chocolate and cake budget on high quality treats. Arguably Manchester’s most famous gateaux emporium extraordinaire, this company currently operates three sites across the city, all in prominent locations. So that’s uber-yummy Beech Road in Chorlton, central on Deansgate, perhaps the most iconic street in our town, and here in upmarket Didsbury

“Luxurious indulgence in delightfully dainty forms”, even if we are quoting ourselves it’s hard to figure out a better way to describe the deal here. Inspired by the world’s capital of glazed, Paris, this small but perfectly proven cafe is all about Viennoiserie and macarons. The latter are available in boxes of up to 10, and you can mix and match flavours like vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, salted caramel, lemon, raspberry, strawberry, cappuccino, cherry and mint chocolate. All of which look as beautiful as they taste, meaning there’s a good chance one pack won’t be anywhere near enough.

A big selling point of Bisous Bisous is the presentation: if you’re after works of art in cake form you came to the right place. The Éclair chocolat and pistachio are two of our personal favourites, and we’d have both framed if that wasn’t defeating the object (and, in the long run, not a good idea). Beyond those, Tarte au Citron Meringuée and Passion Mangue Noix de Coco give some idea as to how elegant the menu gets, which change with the seasons and special occasions. Add to all this some equally artisanal Croissants, Pain au Chocolat and other decadent ways to do breakfast, and you really can’t say no. Just don’t tell the dentist, they may have something to say.
