Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Four friends walk into a bar for a quick beer. They leave four hours later. Welcome to Bunny Jackson’s, a dive-style boozer situated in the thoroughly un-dive-like, super modern First Street area of central Manchester. Hanging out among the arts crowd over at HOME and foodies at one of several acclaimed restaurants in the district, this place is a welcome breath of down-to-earth and specialises in the kind of atmosphere that sucks you in and encourages you to stay long past bedtime — with service, not to mention live music, running well into the early hours seven days a week.
A favourite with Manchester’s rock & roll crowd and people who work in hospitality elsewhere, Bunny Jackson’s self-describes as “the best dive bar in the world and home of the 25p wing.” Or, to put that another way, amazing chicken, cold beers, frozen margs and various other cocktails. All before we mention the huge bourbon and whiskey selection, which is a big selling point for many thirsty folk who wind up here. Beyond that, the menu includes burgers, dirty fries, and some incredible sides to keep you sated.
“No bookings. Make a mess. This ain’t the Ritz,” the Bunny Jackson’s website proclaims. “We’re a dive bar, so salty chips and saltier language.” By now you get the point. So all we have left to say is that from 12pm until 4pm you’ll find Bottomless Bunny in full flow. And that means loading up on chicken wings and beers until you’re done for just £35. Still hungry? Try the Hotter Than The Sun challenge, which, as it sounds, is a test of how spicy you like it, or how spicy you can handle it. And win or lose, suffer or celebrate, everyone walks away with a t-shirt.
