It takes a lot to turn heads in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, but Get Baked has arrived and done exactly that — with a giant slice of madness and a metric ton of chocolate. Taking up residence on Stevenson Square, the viral bakery from Leeds has officially crossed the Pennines, bringing its signature attitude and over-the-top desserts to a city that loves both.
Born in a mum’s kitchen and grown into one of the UK’s fastest rising sweet brands, Get Baked is the brainchild of Rich Myers — a man known as much for his cakes as his colourful, unfiltered Instagram presence. The shop is best known for ‘Bertha’ — a 24-layer chocolate monstrosity so indulgent it almost needs a warning label. When Manchester’s site opened, the first thousand visitors were rewarded with a free slice. Cue a headline-grabbing queue that snaked through the neighbourhood like something out of Glasto.
But this isn’t just a place for cake. The NQ outpost also serves up soft-serve, triple chocolate cookies, gooey brownies, coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods with a serious nostalgic slant. There’s plenty to choose from, whether you’re chasing a sugar high or grabbing something to balance out your espresso.
Inside, the space is bold and playful, matching the personality of the brand. Neon signage, street-style edge, and a certain irreverent charm set the tone — this is no delicate patisserie, it’s a sugar-laced ride with the brakes cut. If you don’t already follow Get Baked on social, expect off-the-wall customer interactions, constant roasting of chocolate haters, and a behind-the-scenes peek into the mayhem of running a cake empire.
