Hidden just outside Manchester’s city centre in Red Bank, Cheetham Hill, Half Dozen Other has quickly built a reputation as one of the city’s finest bakeries. Founded by Jon Wilkin and Mark Flanagan, the team behind Pot Kettle Black, alongside expert baker Mark Wegner, the bakery has become the go-to supplier for some of Manchester’s top restaurants and cafés.

The philosophy is simple: quality over shortcuts. Every loaf, pastry, and cake is made with organic flour, cultured butter from Normandy, and rich Belgian chocolate, without the use of improvers or preservatives. The result? Perfectly crisp croissants, deeply flavoured breads, and indulgent pastries that reflect a commitment to time-honoured baking techniques.

Originally operating as a weekend-only pop-up, Half Dozen Other has now expanded to a full-time café space, giving customers the chance to experience their bakes fresh from the oven. Whether it’s a morning coffee and pastry, a takeaway loaf, or a seasonal Danish made with the best local produce, the bakery’s small but carefully curated menu is a showcase of expert craftsmanship.

Beyond the retail counter, Half Dozen Other’s wholesale arm supplies handmade breads and pastries to some of Manchester’s most celebrated food spots. Their influence extends across the city, quietly shaping the quality of baked goods found in coffee shops, restaurants, and brunch menus.
