They say we are never so strong as when we work together in collective union, and we can think of few better examples of this in bar-restaurant form than Market Square Social in Denton. Founders Jack and Amy were already running Howards Neighbourhood Bar close by when they set up a crowd funding campaign to take on a second site in the area. Emerging victorious with the necessary funds, the results of this community support have come to fruition in the wonderful Market Square Social, which first opened doors to customers in July 2023.
Vegetarians and pescatarians are also very well catered for, with Caramelised Squash & Goats Cheese Crostini, and Balsamic Fig & Halloumi, Water Cress and Rocket worth the trip alone. Sundays mean the attention turns to roast dinners, and Market Square Social pulls these off with aplomb, hence the place getting so busy on the last day of the weekend, each weekend. Other points to note include Speed Quizzing every Thursday, and the place is dog friendly. An excellent addition to this corner of the city, it just goes to show what can happen when the right people come together to do something good in their neighbourhood.
A chic entrance marks this place as a haven for contemporary food and drink, and this carries through into what’s being served. A small plate, slow grazing kind of spot with a great bar offering, from beers and wines to cocktails and liquor, options on the menu are always seasonal and constantly changing, which clearly adds to the selling points. At the time of writing, examples included snack-style bites like Toasted Sourdough and Winter Spiced Butter, Hot Honey Hummus, and Pork Cracklin’ Sticks with Apple & Chilli Sauce. While among the larger courses Slow Cooked Beef Rib, Garlic & Chive Mash stood out alongside the Confit Duck Croquettes and Spiced Beets Ketchup, not to mention the Salt ’n’ Pepper Pigs in Blankets.
