Some restaurants talk a big game about steak. Meatworks, tucked just off Oxford Road in the ever-evolving Circle Square neighbourhood, simply gets on with proving it. Born from the team behind Halal Editions — a butchery famed for its obsessive approach to sourcing and trimming — this kitchen enters the ring with a level of expertise you can taste from the first bite. Their beef comes exclusively from Irish grass-fed Angus herds, a detail that might sound small until you realise how directly it shapes everything from the aroma on the grill to the richness running through each cut.

The menu reads like a love letter to beef in all its best forms. Steaks arrive exactly as ordered, whether you’re craving something blistered and charred or still mooing, with sirloin and ribeye leading the charge. Elsewhere, they lean into the playful, offering bone marrow that melts at the touch, sticky Korean-style short ribs (a must), and smash burgers that have quickly gained a reputation in a city already crowded with contenders. The burger section alone could justify repeated visits: soft buns, generous patties, and that deep, savoury finish only skilled butchery can guarantee.

Being alcohol-free hasn’t limited the drinks menu either, in fact quite the opposite. Instead of the usual lip service, Meatworks pushes its mixers into inventive territory. A kiwi-lime mojito lands bright and refreshing, while a yuzu-and-cucumber cooler brings an almost palate-cleansing lift between bites. It’s thoughtful, confident, and tailored to complement the food rather than distract from it.

The space follows the same principle. High ceilings, an elegant monochrome palette, and clean architectural lines create a room that feels both polished and welcoming. There’s no clutter, no gimmicks — just an atmosphere that keeps the spotlight firmly on the plates coming out of the kitchen. In a district where openings come thick and fast, Meatworks stands out by keeping things simple, taking craft seriously, and delivering the kind of meal that lingers long after you’ve left the table.
