When it topped out in 2006 at a not-so-modest 168.87m in height, the Beetham Tower wasn’t just Manchester’s tallest building, or the tallest residential building in Europe. It’s here we find the impressive Podium restaurant, which matches the landmark structure through equally unforgettable seasonal cuisine.
Led by Executive Head Chef Dave Ashton, this two AA Rosette eatery and lounge bar offers a la carte, vegan a la carte, snacks and small plates, along with a Best of Podium tasting menu. With a seasonal menu, you can expect to find a fresh, curated dining experience with an ever-changing menu. Snackier options include beef or grilled halloumi burgers, Korean fried chicken, crispy fried seafood (with fried capers and roasted garlic), chicken sandwich (with brie, green tomato, chutney and fries), glazed beetroot salad, tempura tender-stem broccoli, and shiitake gyoza. Meanwhile, the five course experience could look something like Cumbrian beef tartare, saddle of Herdwick lamb and pan fried halibut, peach meringue, and British strawberry and Pimms trifle.
You get the point — high quality ingredients and genuinely interesting dishes would set the place apart, even without the iconic setting. As would the wine list, with glasses here every bit as elegant and well-considered as the plates. Highly recommended, if that wasn’t already clear from what we’ve said.
