Kevin and Rachel Choudhary are blazing a trail in Ancoats with their unique ‘market diner’, offering daily menus inscribed on a chalkboard. Street Urchin, often overlooked in best restaurant compilations, is a treasured secret for true food enthusiasts.
Having spent time in Manchester’s top kitchens, including a term with the iconic Robert Owen Brown, chef Kevin later took the helm at The Victoria in Altrincham for several years. Street Urchin, his latest venture, was inaugurated in 2019 on the fringes of Ancoats. Kevin takes pride in creating everything in-house, from freshly baked bread to the langoustine head bisque used in his popular seafood stew. He even crafts his own halloumi and labneh. The menu is split into small and large plates, allowing for a traditional starter-main approach or a shared dining experience. A notable recent inclusion of buttermilk fried English grey squirrel (a meat cherished by Rob Owen Brown) has caused a stir.
