Liv, the owner of petal palace Sweet Bud, is quick to explain why she does what she does. “Floristry is my passion, having fallen into it as a career after a big struggle with addiction and mental health issues, my main aim is to brighten the lives of others, using flowers as therapy. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the beautiful nature of plants and flowers and I think that needs to be shared.” Open Wednesday to Sunday in spring, summer and autumn, and by appointment only in winter, this floral haven should be first on the list for any fan of horticulture.

Leaving the street behind is like stepping into a green oasis amid the urban jungle, a portal that transports you from the busyness of Stockport Road into a calm, private corner where aesthetics and aromas are the only things you need to consider. “On a mission to boost your serotonin with the art of flowers and plants”, you’re likely to find Liv surrounded by foliage, either plotting or making her next big thing. And we really do mean big — she’s a specialist in large scale installations, so visitors might catch a glimpse of bits and parts, or even whole pieces-to-be, even if they’re here to buy something much smaller in size, with everything from houseplants to bouquets available.

Independently run, female-owned, Sweet Bud isn’t just about good for you but also good for the planet. No wasteful or environmentally harmful materials are used anywhere, with things like non-biodegradable cellophane and floral foam are on the banned list. Having spent more than a decade in the industry, during which time she clocked up experience working for highly respected florists in Manchester and Yorkshire, this is a natural evolution for Liv, who has found the perfect home at Levenshulme’s Antique Village. A studio which truly speak to her love of floristry, but also art and design. An environment in which you can almost feel the creativity sparking.
