The Anglesey

A lovingly restored, no-nonsense pub bringing classic beers, heritage interiors and proper boozer energy.

The Anglesey
89-91 Chapel St, Salford M3 5DF

The Anglesey is one of those buildings that feels like it’s always been there — because, more or less, it has. Sitting proudly on Chapel Street, this near-200-year-old pub has lived many lives: once The Lord Nelson, later The Rovers Return, and for too long after lockdown, a shuttered shell.

That didn’t sit right with its new owners. Run by two families, the Brookes and the Williams, The Anglesey is their first venture on this side of the Menai Bridge, following the much-loved Castle Court Hotel in Beaumaris. Rather than reinventing the wheel, they’ve focused on bringing the pub back to what it should be — warm, welcoming, and built to last.

The restoration has been handled with care. Original tiles, brass details and dark wood have been preserved, red leather booths reinstated, and the bar returned to its rightful place as the heart of the room. It feels timeless in the best way — the kind of pub you instinctively understand the moment you step inside.

Behind the bar, it’s classics all the way: Guinness poured properly, well-kept ales, and a handful of thoughtfully chosen craft options. No gimmicks, no distractions — just a solid, handsome city boozer doing exactly what it’s meant to do.
