East Manchester’s transformation has been moving at some pace, and The Medlock places hospitality right at the centre of the action. Standing within Medlock Square, moments from both Co-op Live and the Etihad Stadium, this sizeable Radisson Blu brings 401 bedrooms, restaurants, bars and some seriously impressive suites to a part of the city now firmly established as one of Manchester’s biggest entertainment districts.

The interiors take their cues from the neighbourhood rather than simply dropping an anonymous hotel into the landscape. References to the area’s industrial past meet softer natural elements, while music-inspired details nod to the thousands heading nearby for gigs and events. Bedrooms follow a similarly considered approach, combining warm timber, understated tones and bespoke work from Manchester artists with thoughtful extras including GRIND coffee machines, locally inspired Vimto bonbons and custom-made Silentnight mattresses. Deluxe rooms add yoga mats, while virtual fitness options complement the hotel’s 24-hour Technogym studio.

At the top end, the two-storey Penthouse Suite raises things considerably. There are two bedrooms, with scope for a third, alongside a full kitchen, large living and entertaining areas and its own rooftop garden overlooking the surrounding skyline. A separate VIP entrance and facilities for private chefs make it particularly suited to artists, athletes and anyone looking for a little more privacy before or after a major event.

Food and drink also plays a significant role. Blend switches from daytime café to relaxed wine bar, pairing GRIND coffee and pastries with evening bottles and craft beer. Three Rivers Brasserie and Bar, meanwhile, focuses on polished British cooking, from steaks and prawn cocktail to Lancashire hotpot and a Manchester tart-inspired panna cotta. MasterChef winner Dan Merriman oversees the kitchen direction, while award-winning bartender Cressida Lawlor leads the drinks programme.

Altogether, The Medlock feels built for far more than simply somewhere to sleep after the final whistle or encore.
