“A dandyish den of indulgence in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.” Trof struck gold with that tagline, not to mention the building it calls home. A core part of the wider neighbourhood’s 21st Century reputation as one of Europe’s trendiest urban areas, this joint has always been proud to be a bar for the people. A not-unreasonably priced intuition known for daily food specials, over the years it has become a go-to for informal lunch and dinner. Not to mention cocktails, and an exceptional rare bourbon collection. But let’s not get too carried away just yet.
Among other things, Trof often invokes images of very long and pretty boozy roast dinners on a Sunday with friends, hauled up in one of the many intimate corners of this tall, multi-storied but strangely slender building. The wooden interior adding to the sense of this being a higgledy-piggledy maze spread across different levels. All the better for eating, with brunch and lunch served between 10am until 3pm daily.
You’ll find a full english, full veggie and full vegan breakfast. Then there’s the sausage and egg bap on brioche bun with ‘yankie’ cheese, chilli and ketchup. And the Lancashire Cheese toastie. If you prefer something healthier, Greek yoghurt and granola and avocado on toast (available as either veggie or full-plant-based) are also available. As are butterbeans on toast with green herb yogurt, harissa and focaccia. For something more suited to the afternoon, opt for the chicken caesar salad, fish & chips with curry sauce, double cheese or chicken burger. Or meat free alternatives. If you’re still hungry, we highly recommend diving into decadent deserts like the iconic sticky toffee pudding, Baileys tiramisu, and dark chocolate & orange tart. All of which just leaves space to mention the bar — one of Manchester’s best stored and most welcoming. So no complaints from us.
