Manchester has never been short of Indian restaurants, but every so often somewhere arrives that feels determined to do things a little differently. Occupying a prominent Peter Street site within Hotel Forty Seven, Tyga brings a polished, contemporary approach to Indian dining without losing sight of the flavours and traditions.
The room itself immediately sets the tone, balancing warm textures, rich detailing and a sense of occasion that makes everything from date nights to celebrations feel suitably special. Downstairs, an elegant cocktail lounge adds another dimension, creating the impression of a venue built for long evenings rather than quick dinners.

The food is where Tyga truly earns its stripes. Headed up by chef Rakesh Singh Rawat, the menu travels confidently between beloved classics and more ambitious creations, showcasing influences from across the Indian subcontinent alongside carefully considered contemporary touches. Chaat dishes (a whole dedicated menu, no less), tandoor specialities and Indo-Chinese plates all feature heavily, while favourites such as Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani and rich curries ensure there is plenty for traditionalists too.
Then there are the lamb chops. Deeply marinated, expertly charred and finished with fresh herbs and chimichurri, the Imperial Lamb Flamed Chops have quickly become the restaurant’s signature. Their reputation has grown so rapidly that one Premier League footballer reportedly arranges for them to be delivered from Manchester to London whenever the craving strikes. Having tried them ourselves, we can understand the commitment. Equally impressive is the slow-cooked lamb shank, arriving dramatically in its cooking vessel with meat so tender it barely requires a knife.

The drinks programme is every bit as considered, featuring cocktails infused with Indian spices and botanicals alongside a wine list designed specifically to complement the menu’s bold flavours. Add attentive hospitality, luxurious surroundings and a private dining room for special occasions, and Tyga has quickly established itself as one of the city centre’s most exciting modern Indian dining destinations. Whether you arrive for a full feast or simply those much-talked-about chops, chances are you’ll already be planning your return journey before dessert lands on the table.
