HOME is welcoming back the critically acclaimed Hofesh Shechter Company to present barbarians – A trilogy by Hofesh Sheather.

The stage will be stripped back to reveal Shechter’s extraordinary choreography at its most elegant and intimate. With no set and a simple black box stage setting, the lighting design carves through the space, falling on the simply dressed dancers.

barbarians presents a trilogy consisting of three pieces: the barbarians in love, a work for six dancers which premiered on 1 November 2014 at Festspielhaus, St Polten, Austria; tHE bAD, a work for five dancers which premiered on 30 April 2015 at HOME in Manchester; and two completely different angles of the same f***ing thing, a duet which premiered on 3 July 2015 at Berliner Festspiele, Germany.

the barbarians in love features six white-clad figures move as one to the strains of an ecclesiastic baroque score. What follows, as two very different works unfold, is a volatile explosion of dubstep grooves in tHE bAD – at once joyous and trancelike – and a poignant duet, which together complete the evening.

Hofesh Shechter said “HOME supported the creation of barbarians and it’s always a pleasure to perform in venues that really care about the work. As a company we love Manchester – it’s a great city and we’re pleased to be heading back there.”

“We’re so excited to welcome back Hofesh Shechter and his incredible dancers to our stage in the New Year, said HOME’s Artistic Director: Theatre, Walter Meierjohann. “Following their world premiere of tHE bAD with sell-out performances here at HOME in April 2015, we’re delighted to be able to offer audiences the full, explosive trilogy that is barbarians.”

Co-commissioned by Sadler’s Wells London, Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Théâtre de la Ville – Paris, Berliner Festspiele – Foreign Affairs, Maison de la Danse – Lyon, Festival d’Avignon, HOME Manchester, Festspielhaus, St Pölten (including a working residency – the barbarians in love) and Hessischer Staatsballett, Staatstheater Darmstadt / Wiesbaden (including a working residency).
