Anthony Burgess was a novelist, poet, playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic, perhaps best known for his challenging and hugely influential novel A Clockwork Orange. He is one of Manchester’s greatest cultural exports, but it is only recently that his work has started to receive wide critical acclaim from the country, and city, of his birth.
Urgent Copy is an exhibition of book cover art that reflects the variety of Burgess’s writing, and the different ways it has been interpreted by artists. Drawing on rare and unusual material from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation collections, these screenprints demonstrate the range and scope of Burgess’s work with striking and attractive images.
