Brasserie Abode is one of those places that never fails to let us down. It doesn’t matter if you fancy a sophisticated breakfast, some after-work cocktails or a romantic meal for two on a special occasion – they really have it all.
What’s more is they also do afternoon tea – which means you have an excuse to be in there all day long.
Geographically, it is in the perfect position to tempt you in on your way into town – and what better a way to spend a Saturday afternoon than drinking tea, eating cakes and having a good old natter with all your favourite people.
Now, it’s got to be said, the tea at Brasserie Abode is far from average. Of course, they keep things classic – you purists don’t need to break a sweat – but what they have done is made some fun swaps and additions to make this tea like no other in town.
Take the savoury selection, for example. Of course, you will find your traditional dainty finger sandwiches filled with egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon and cream cheese– so no need to panic there.
What you will also find, however, is a little pan of chipolatas with tomato chutney and teeny-tiny crabcakes. We love the warm additions to this afternoon tea and it brings a welcome adaptation to a classic tea.
You can follow this with your freshly baked scones – served with cream and a selection of preserves, naturally.
As for the sweet treats- you will find a sumptuous carrot and walnut cake which is topped off with some of the nicest cream cheese icing I have ever had the pleasure of tasting and a tremendously tart raspberry macaron.
The real winners, on the other hand, were the chocolate ganache pot and the boozy trifle. Two opposing forces – one dark, rich and stormy, the other bursting with summer flavour. It’s safe to say we loved it!
Alongside this, you will be able to choose from a wide selection of teas and coffees – it would be afternoon tea without it after all.
All these delicious morsels with cost you just £19 per person, or, for an extra £7, you can get a glass of Prosecco to wash it all down which makes it the perfect treat for a special occasion. Get yourselves booked in – we cannot recommend it enough.
