Following a sell-out run in the West End, Strictly Come Dancing favourites Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace return to the Opera House this week with their hugely popular show dedicated to all things Tango.
Seriously sexy with stunning and at times unbelievably complex dance routines this show is a must for dance fans young and old. From the minute Flavia arrives on stage swooshing her silky bob in perfect time to the Latino beats you know you’re in for a treat. Accompanied by the fabulous five piece Tango band, Tango Siempre, and Puerto Rican born singer Miguel Angel the scene is set; we’re transported to the sultry setting of a traditional Buenos Aires Bar circa 1943.
Produced by the legendary Arlene Phillips and choreographed by Vincent and Flavia themselves you can see this show really has been a labour of love. Vincent and Flavia accompanied by ten internationally renowned professional dancers lead us beautifully through their love story with the deliciously devious Diomar Giraldo as El Gato adding an element of danger as he vies for Flavia’s affections. This love triangle allows for a brilliantly choreographed fight scene which incorporates many beautifully executed Tango moves that totally captivates the audience.
Anthony Renshaw and Tricia Deighton play Carlos and Rosa, the tired and weary old bar owners who add a comic element and ultimately through their love/hate relationship prove you are never too old to Tango.
Vincent and Flavia are clearly the stars of the show but generously use the skills of their accompanying dancers to great effect, they add sizzle and spice to an already smouldering atmosphere, with superb costumes, including thigh high splits which got some of the Gentlemen in the audience rather hot under the collar, to quote the grey haired Gentleman beside me, “She could teach me a thing or two”.
The dancing reaches fever pitch towards the end of the show and the routines are not only captivating but at times so quick you fear for the groins of the male dancer, potentially one heel flick away from disaster! The dancing truly is magnificent, the skill and intricacy of each performance is something special, Vincent and Flavia are entirely seamless, hugely impressive in the more fast paced numbers and hauntingly beautiful in the tender slower pieces. Receiving a standing ovation and rapturous applause this is one show not to be missed!
