Beardless Beer Bingo. A triple threat to the craft ale industry, hoping to shake up traditions and expectations of craft beer drinkers.
In collaboration with the Crown and Kettle, Beatnikz Republic Bar are celebrating for 10 whole days everything to do with women and craft beer. The events are showcasing female brewers serving up the brews in casks, kegs, bottles and cans with not a hipster beard in sight.
As much as you can easily picture the typical craft beer drinker – a flannel shirt and beard probably springs to mind – in ancient civilizations women brewed beer for their families, selling bottles to their neighbours. Fast forward a few years and past that whole hipster generation we had to put ourselves through and women are back in the industry with huge and prevalent roles.
In fact, there are over 240 female brewers or brewery owners in the UK alone and around 17% of women regularly drink beer.
Poking fun at its own industry norms, Beardless Beer Week is spreading across a number of venues in Manchester City Centre to celebrate the inclusion of women within the industry, standing alongside the men and aiming to encourage women’s involvement.
The week involves loads of events including a Beardless special edition of Craft Beer Bingo at Beatnikz Republic Bar hoping to breathe fresh air into an industry built on ‘bro culture’. The usual event sees the bingo caller extraordinaire, Wizard King hosting all the games with the chance to win the all-important beer tab and plenty of beer up for grabs throughout the events.
The week ends with a Women In Beer Taproom Crawl starting at Cloudwater and winding through all you favourite taprooms in the city until the evening.
The beer world is traditionally, but surprisingly not historically, a male environment, there’s a gender imbalance, even when it comes to drinking beer, events like this hope to change those ways!
