It’s Good Friday and I’m sat in my house typing this. The sun is shining and I’m stuck inside doing this. I want to play out. Luckily there’s LOADS going on…

Easter Bank Holiday
Unless you’re a complete tool you’ll have realised that this weekend is Easter and as such there’s an absolute shit ton of things happening around the city. Most people are off work too so there’ll be plenty of bodies milling about. Oh, and it’s going to be a scorcher! Check out this round-up I wrote at the beginning of the week to see what’s happening around the city…

22 Things to do this Easter Bank Holiday Weekend 2019

Easter Brewtap at Blackjack Beers
Good Friday, Saturday & Easter Sunday
I don’t really understand exactly what is going on down at Blackjack Brewery this Easter weekend, but I do know that it’s going to revolve around beers. It’s not often that the gang down at Blackjack open their brewery shutters and let us lowly peasants in for a snoop around but when they do you can always be guaranteed a good time. They’ll ply you with their brilliant beers, feed you and put on a bit of entertainment too – and with it being Easter you should probably expect a bit of chocolate to be knocking around.

LVL 51: LVLZ 5 (and a half) Year Birthday w/ Special Guests
Saturday 20th April
Fresh from their packed Street Party in the NQ last weekend the Levelz lot are back at it again but in much more sturdy (and legal) surroundings. Head on down to Niamos in Hulme this Saturday for their 5½ year birthday as they blast out bangers right through to the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Dirty Dancing at the Palace Theatre
From Monday 22nd April
Well I’ve had the time of my life. I really have – thank you so much. This has been great, let’s do it again sometime? I’ve never actually felt this way before, and you know what? I owe it all to you. No really. You see the thing is, you’re the one thing that I just can’t get enough of and I’m seriously starting to think that this could be love. So… let’s go to the Palace Theatre this week and watch Dirty Dancing on stage. It’ll be top.

Home, I’m Darling at The Lowry
From Tuesday 23rd April
Some more theatre here for you and this time it’s the critically acclaimed comedy ‘Home, I’m Darling’ a story of one woman’s quest to be the perfect 1950’s housewife. Featuring the brilliant Katherine Parkinson, the play quickly begins to unravel the perfect 50’s domestic life, with some rather impressive (and hilarious) consequences. I’ve seen it – I highly recommend you get down to The Lowry this week and watch it.

One Deck Wednesday with John Thomson at Electrik
Wednesday 24th April
The Fast Show and Cold Feet regular John Thomson will be heading down to Chorlton this Wednesday with a bunch of vinyl under his arm and a smile on his little face. He’ll be popping into Electrik to partake in their excellent One Deck Wednesday night, a weekly event that just lets people play whatever the fuck they want on their antiquated single record deck. Wednesday will be the perfect chance to tell John that you loved him in 24 Hour Party People or that you think he should have been in Alan Partridge more. He’s a fan of Northern Soul apparently so you should expect a fair bit of that.

Avengers: Endgame
Thursday 25th April
This Thursday sees the culmination of over 10 years’ hard graft as the final instalment of The Avengers thingy comes out. For anyone that watched the last one – every fucker died at the end and so we’ve all been patiently waiting to see what Iron Man and that Thor guy can do to rectify it all. For anyone reading this thinking “What the hell is this guy going on about?” I apologise. You should also know that this film will heavily feature a talking racoon so if you’re not okay with that – move swiftly on.

UNIQLO Opening
Thursday 25th April
This past couple of weeks I’ve experienced a few unfortunate events which will certainly get rectified this Thursday with the opening of UNIQLO on Market Street. Unfortunately for me (and the people who I work with) ALL of my current UNIQLO jeans have perished in the gusset area, almost as if they knew that the new store was opening and that I should get my hand in my pocket and buy a brand-spanking new pair. Until Thursday though I’m fucked. I’m just going to have to wear joggers. Or shorts. Or those leopard skin leggings I bought once. Oh, and for the opening UNIQLO will be putting on some art and music and that. Check it out below…

UNIQLO have partnered with NTS to showcase the best of Manchester’s artistic talent

Robocop
Friday 26th April
Yes! Finally! Not only do I constantly reference and talk about Robocop pretty much all the time, I also watch it at least once a week on my own, under a little blanky with a massive packet of Quavers and a couple of ciders. Most certainly the greatest film ever made, this week you’ll be able to watch it on the big screen at the Odeon – much like all those bastards did back in 1987 when it first came out.

Space Cadet + Hit & Run DRS ‘From The Deep’ LP Launch
Friday 26th April
Friday sees the release of the new LP from Manchester music legend DRS and there’s going to be a big bloody party at The Mint Lounge to celebrate it. Returning to his roots with this 4th studio album – From The Deep, DRS will be performing LIVE at the event, alongside Pitch 92, LSB, Chimpo (playing Jungle) Fox, Dogger, Eva Bee, Blindside and Rich Reason. Should be a banger as they say.

ABBA Sing-A-Long Disco
Friday 26th April
It’s pretty much a given that every single person you meet out on the street knows the words to at least one ABBA song. It’s a rite of passage – something which everyone must go through in order to become a fully-fledged member of society. Most people learn the trade at family weddings, shouting ‘Waterloo’ at the tops of their voices while dancing with their nan who’s got one too many vol au vent flakes in her moustache. It’s therefore a given that this Sing-A-Long ABBA night at Gorilla will be really busy and a lot of bloody fun. I’ll see you on the dance floor!
