The steady tick-tocking of the pendulum from a metronome denotes continuation, stability and endlessness. Metronomy’s new album Metronomy Forever represents a similar ethos.

Containing 17 tracks, from funk songs like ‘It’s Automatic’ and ‘Walking In The Dark’ lie pretty and glistening ambient tracks. It aims to evoke the feeling of being sat in a nursing home, recalling joyous flashes of a past life.

It also comes from a desire to replicate the feeling of listening to the radio. Band member, Joe Mount, explains that the radio never stops, and it doesn’t matter the music that comes on, it’s entirely your situation that gives the music its emotional meaning.

From his relative happiness of existence, moving from his Parisian home to take up residence atop a hill in the garden of England, Joe, thought having no great tragedy to draw from would stifle his creativity. But the opposite was true and the record exudes green tranquillity.

The lyrics draw towards a reference that even idyllic circumstances require maintenance, reminded on the song Lately.

The entire album is based on the fact that life is about the scope of experience and that although agony may appear to be a good palette, it’s nowhere near as fun.
