I’m sorry to bring it up, to say the ‘B’ word. The word we are all sick to death of.

I said it. There it’s out of the way now. The elephant in the room has been acknowledged and covered. I’m sorry.

The next big MIF piece including actors Christopher Eccleston and Adjoa Andohand writer Lemn Sissay are set to perform alongside writer Michael Morpurgo and actor Juliet Stevenson in Ivo van Hove’s Re:Creating Europe.

The ONE NIGHT ONLY piece, presented at The Lowry Theatre is on Friday 12th July and will question the future of Europe and what it means to be European.

The performance is exploring Europe through literature and political speeches that have defined the history of Europe.

Opening with a reading of Phoenix of Peace with Michael Morpurgo his newest text specially commissioned for the Manchester performance. Following this, video footage from the artists, thinkers and political leaders from Shakespeare to Victor Hugo, Kamel Daoud to Theresa May, Boris Johnson to Winston Churchill.

Directed by prolific theatre director Ivo van Hove and in partnership with De Balie, a leading venue for cutting-edge debates and art projects in the Netherlands, Re:Creating Europe will be performed at Manchester International Festival for just one night.
