Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Disclosure. All great DJ duos, obviously, but none of them are at the helm of the North of England’s greatest cities, are they?
In a tale as old as time, Liverpool and Greater Manchester are going head-to-head as Mayors Steve Rotheram and Andy Burnham gear up for another epic DJ battle in February.
Following last year’s clash in Manchester, DJ and mayors will head down the M62 to Liverpool’s Camp and Furnace to see who will come out on top, all in aid of local homeless charities.
Guests will also be treated to performances from singer Rebecca Ferguson and The Farm vocalist Peter Hooton, as well as legendary Liverpool FC player and rap icon John Barnes for the home side.
Meanwhile, Corrie actress Sally Lindsay, M People’s Heather Small, BBC Radio 5 Live host Nihal Arthanayake and Manchester’s Finest’s very own Matt White will be flying the flag for the Rainy City.
The charity event marks the third time the Mayors have clashed, the first taking place online during the pandemic and a follow-up in-person event in December 2022 at Mayfield Depot.
Proceeds from the night will be donated to local charities across the Liverpool City Region and Greater Manchester, with all funds supporting initiatives to tackle homelessness and end rough sleeping.
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said: “We’re coming back but this time we’re heading over to Liverpool. I was so proud of what we achieved with our DJ Battle last year, using the power of music and friendly rivalry to unite behind one powerful message, that homelessness has no place in Greater Manchester.
He added: “It’s going to be bigger and better this time round, as we spread the fundraising and ramp up the noise over in Liverpool.”
Andy’s rival on the decks Steve Rotheram, Mayor of Liverpool City Region, added: “I’m really looking forward to welcoming Andy and the rest of the Greater Manchester contingent to Liverpool – or the UK’s cultural capital as I like to call it! We’ve shown time and again that nowhere can throw a party quite like our area and we’ve got a fantastic line-up of famous faces joining us on stage for what promises to be an evening full of fun and great music.
“Most importantly though, it’s all in aid of a cause that’s very close to all our hearts. Together, we’re showing that the North West will always stand united in support of those who need it most.”
