The Bridgewater Hall has launched a huge programme of festive events for 2022

Raymond Gubbay’s annual Christmas season is BACK with live music from classic Christmas movies, carol singers and more.

Tis the season for cosy concert visits and The Bridgewater Hall serves as Manchester’s idyllic spot to enjoy some unforgettable festive entertainment, courtesy of Raymond Gubbay.

If you’re familiar with classical music, the name Raymond Gubbay will undoubtedly ring bells, as the British impresario has been at the forefront of promoting and producing opera for over five decades.

Running from Sunday 11 December to Tuesday 3 January, there is an unbeatable lineup of shows on offer, with something that the whole family can enjoy at the most wonderful time of the year.

A Dickensian Christmas

Sunday 11th December
A Dickensian Christmas kicks things off with a sublime selection of carols, classics, and readings from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, presented by Stephen Mangan. Following this, audiences can toast the Christmas spirit and join in with season favourites including Joy to the World, Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful and many more.

Christmas at the Movies

Thursday 15th December 
Christmas at the Movies brings the greatest music from your favourite festive films together for one magical concert, as the Manchester Concert Orchestra will perform a selections of timeless classics including music from The Polar Express, Elf, E.T. Home Alone, White Christmas, Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street and The Snowman.

Christmas Spectacular

Monday 19th December
The ultimate party – Christmas Spectacular – returns to The Bridgewater Hall with an extravagant show full of festive fun as guest singers Kerry Ellis and Ricardo Afonso hit the stage with the best Christmas hits in a sensational feast of music, song and dance complete with all things Christmassy. 

Horrible Histories

Tuesday 20th December
Brand new for 2022 – Horrible Histories proudly presents a hilarious and heart-warming family adventure through the history of Christmas as Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII and St Nicholas join forces to save the festive season in Horrible Christmas. 

Christmas Carol Singalong

Saturday 24th December
Now a Bridgewater Hall Christmas Eve tradition, Christmas Carols Singalong returns with Jonathan Cohen leading you through the very best Christmas carols and songs in one irresistibly family-friendly extravaganza.

Last Night of the Christmas Proms

Monday 26th December
There’s also plenty to look forward to after Christmas Day. The Manchester Concert Orchestra performs a stellar selection of rousing classics including Ravel’s Bolero, Elgar’s Nimrod, Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and many more on Boxing Day at Last Night of the Christmas Proms. 

The Music of Zimmer vs Williams

Tuesday 27th December
The Music of Zimmer vs Williams brings the very best epic scores from the two greatest film composers of all time with music from Gladiator, Superman, Man of Steel, Harry Potter, Inception, Jurassic Park, The Dark Knight Rises, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hook, Jaws, E.T. and many more.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Wednesday 28th December
The UK’s most renowned Big Band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to take you on a trip down memory lane performing wartime chart toppers and swinging hits from the forties, directed by legendary band-leader Ray McVay.

Monday 2nd & Tuesday 3rd January
Into the New Year, the critically acclaimed Varna International Ballet and Orchestra arrive in Manchester as part of their debut UK season where they will delight you with breath-taking performances of The Nutcracker.
