Back in February last year we broke the story that Soho House is set to come to Manchester, located in the new St Johns development that is currently being constructed on and around the Old Granada Studios on Quay Street.

This Tuesday saw Soho House owner Nick Jones speak at the Northern Restaurant and Bar show at Manchester Central, and more details emerged about the space and what we should expect from this exciting new private members club.

Looking to be open by the end of the year, Manchester’s Soho House will be spread over the top three floors of the Old Granada Studios warehouse, and will feature a ROOFTOP SWIMMING POOL, alongside a bar and terrace, and spread on the other floors – workspace that will transform into a music and club venue at night.

The warehouse will also be home to Cecconi’s, their Italian restaurant, and Mollie’s Motel & Diner, a classic American motel-diner concept created by the Soho House team, with high-spec contemporary rooms, all-day dining, affordable prices and an easy-going vibe.

Mollie’s already operate in Bristol and Oxford, and the new Manchester location will be their very first city centre hotel – and a big dollop of old-school classic 50s America.

Mollie’s Manchester will boast upwards of 140 rooms, a 164-cover diner restaurant, cocktail bar, event space, lounge, workplace and an outdoor terrace.

Back to Soho House though, and Nick explained how he’s “nervous” about his venture in Manchester, and when pushed about comments made back in 1995 where he said that Soho House wouldn’t work outside of London, said he “was naive“.

“It clearly was not the fact then – Britain as a whole is full of interesting creativity everywhere you go… I just clearly got that wrong and we’re now excited to bring Soho Houses to other places in the UK.”

Further details on the new Soho House are pretty sparse at the moment, but expect more details to filter through as they continue construction. Memberships should be ranging from £600 to £1,400 per year – making this probably the swankiest and most exclusive bar in the city, indeed the North.
