Truly encapsulating the ‘crazy’ handle – Crazy Pedro’s is the best place to go in Manchester if you like your pizzas that are a little left field.

Offering up a dazzling array of options, a pizza at Pedro’s can be topped with all manner of odd combinations, with past offerings throwing chips and gravy, Christmas pudding and even crickets into the mix.

With a packed menu of tried and tested classics, Pedro’s also offer a monthly special – dreamed up by owner Lyndon Higginson and a crack team of pizza experts.

These specials can get seriously weird and in this first episode of ‘Mad Dough’ we get behind the scenes at one of their pizza brainstorming sessions to see exactly what they’ve got in store for the rest of the year.

Judging the pizzas on the most important things – the look, the taste, the name – the team went through each potential special, from a summer Pina Colada pizza offering right up to a Christmas pizza that had a custard base and was adorned with mince pies. Some were fantastic, others not so much.

After we finished in the lab, we took to the streets with 3 selected potential specials to see what the people of Manchester thought of the strange concoctions.

We also hunted down the opinions of a couple of true experts, Maurizio owner of Salvi’s Italian restaurant – someone who certainly knows a thing or two about pizza, and Dan from Northern Soul Grilled Cheese who got to taste the spectacular Cheese on Toast Pizza.
