Landmark on St Peter’s Sq

In what is set to be their first venture outside of the capital, premium coffee company and social enterprise Change Please will be heading to the Landmark building on St Peter’s Square very soon.

The company will be operating a coffee and pastry bar in the building, a big step up from humble beginnings with one coffee cart in Covent Garden back in 2015. Their coffee has won multiple awards too, so you can be assured a top-quality brew when you pop in.

So, what makes Change Please any different than the long list of coffee joints in town already?

Well, I’m glad you asked. Basically this is “life changing” coffee insofar that they use the profits from sales to train people experiencing homelessness to be baristas, giving them a Living Wage job and providing support with housing, finances and therapy.

Change Please trainees are trained to become speciality baristas at their state-of-the-art Training Academy by an in-house SCA Certified training team. After their initial training they will begin their new barista role, supported by a Mentor Barista.

Whilst employed, trainees are paid a Living Wage and continue to be supported with housing, personal finance and therapy support and crucially, onward employment, further helping them on the next step on their journey.

Doesn’t that sound brilliant?! With the increasing homelessness problem within the city, schemes like this can only be seen as a positive – and I wish them all the best in their new Manchester location.
