Back in 2021, Marble Beers and VarVar Brewery, which is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, came together to brew ‘Strong Ale’ – a rich, barley wine-esque 9.2% beer.
After watching the horrific events unfold in the city over the past few weeks, Marble Arch reached out to VarVar to see how they could in some way help the situation, and they were encouraged to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
The DEC aims to raise funds quickly at times of crisis overseas, saving and protecting civilians by rebuilding lives through effective humanitarian response.
Their charities and local partners are currently in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance. They are in desperate need of funding and support so that they can continue to provide Ukraine with essential humanitarian items and the aid it needs.
£30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month, £50 could provide blankets for four families and £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month.
Marble Beers is trying to raise £5,000 for the DEC through the sale of their ‘Strong Ale’ beer, which was a collaboration with VarVar back in 2021.
The ale is brewed to reflect their mutual love of old ales, burton ales and barley wines. Brewed with a complex malt based and fermented on Marble’s house yeast, delicately hopped, this ale shows both breweries’ holistic approach to brewing – creating a balanced beer whose whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.
Since the Marble Beers announced its fundraising for Ukraine, they’ve already sold around 100 bottles in the first week, but they still need your help, as there are approximately 600 bottles that need to be sold so that they can reach their target.
The beer is available to buy directly from the pub, or you can purchase the bottles online via the link below.
