Even though us Brits love a whinge about the weather, EVERYONE seems to be a much better mood recently, and not even the extension of the ‘road map’ out of lockdown seems to have dampened people’s spirits much.

Because we can STILL go out and have drinks and great food in the sun, we can STILL see our friends and we can STILL enjoy the many fantastic events and performances that the city is providing us with each week.

So it’s smiles all round, and if you’re wanting to get out with your gang this weekend then that smile is about to expand to Cheshire Cat-like proportions. Escape to Freight Island – the city’s BIGGEST Beer Garden – has decided to open up for WALK-INS this weekend!

So, if like me you never get around to booking anything, then this is the perfect time to enjoy this al fresco wonderland, filled with music, DJs, cocktails from Jane Eyre, beers from Camden and Pomona Island, natural wines from Forever Changes, BBQ from Baratuxri, crepes from Maison Breizh, pizza from Voodoo Rays, tacos from Madre, Italian dishes from Belzan Pasta Kitchen, burgers from Patty Queen, Vietnamese wonders from Mi & Pho, vegan delights from Plant Grill, ciders from Kopparberg – and SO much more.

Throughout the day on Saturday will also see them host club legends So Flute, with their unique blend of soul, funk, rap, reggae and Afrobeat.

Sunday is, of course Father’s Day (unless you forgot?!) and Freight Island will be holding a special ‘From Manchester with Love‘ with Jenna G, Strategy, High Hoops and the drag madness that is – Amuse Bouche.

So if you’re stuck at a loose end this weekend, you can just rock up and enjoy the assorted pleasures of one of the city’s most impressive venues.
