Louisiana blues musician Leon Atkins, better known as Lil’ Jimmy Reed, is set to perform live as he continues his global tour. Atkins’ lifelong passion for the blues was sparked at the tender age of six when he received his first cigar box guitar. His pseudonym, Lil’ Jimmy Reed, was established after an extraordinary event where he stepped in for the inebriated Mississippi bluesman, Jimmy Reed, at a concert. Atkins’ impressive knowledge of Reed’s music allowed him to deliver such a convincing performance that the audience remained oblivious to the switch. Even at the age of 80, Atkins’ vibrant showmanship remains undiminished, with his electrifying guitar playing, raw vocal power, and haunting harmonica performances. His music, deeply rooted in the experiences of the impoverished Deep South, encapsulates the raw Louisiana blues tradition that has inspired bands like The Rolling Stones, among others.
