Cultplex host a screening of Solitude, a film by Nina Danino about the life of singer, song-writer, actress and muse Nico. The film combines Nico’s deep interest and love of the Romantic Poets, who influenced her song-writing, with a meditation on her iconic image from the portrait films by Andy Warhol and Philippe Garrel.

It is an elegy on iconicity, vocality, finitude and solitude with swirling electronic music by Ash Ra Tempel, electronic guitar from James Creed, and new arrangements by Gagarin and Nina Danino that drive the audience deeper into her music and sound.

Following the screening, a panel who worked closely with Nico will discuss her life and years in Manchester. The panel will include both of Nico’s biographers Richard Witts and Jennifer Otter and one of her managers and friend Phil Jones, who will discuss the film and Nico’s time in the 80s living in North Manchester with other poets such as Gregory Corso and her friendship with John Cooper Clarke.
